A 50% increase in capture of gross recyclables between 2002 and 2003 contracts.
Cost of Kerbside Recycling services has fallen from $44 to $24 per household.

A webpage showcasing the marine coastal area along the Esplanade at the Kissing Point end of Rowes Bay, a biodiversity-rich shallow area of several square kilometres exposed to the air during spring tides.

Page by Dr. Gilianne Brodie, JCU Lecturer and CRC Reef coordinator, who for years has developed great local knowledge.

A week of events for all
celebrating World Environment Day 2004

Friday: Future Leaders Congress with schools in partnership with GBRMPA and the Townsville Marine Advisory Committee (LMAC) held at the Council Chambers

Saturday: Tour of the Rowes Bay intertidal zone, led by Dr. Gilianne Brodie showcasing the marine biodiversity (including colourful sponges, seagrasses, algae and a profusion of invertebrates).

Sunday: Thousands of people attended Ecofiesta celebrating World Environment Day 2004, held in Queens Gardens.

Monday: WALOR (What a Load of Rubbish) game was played with students from Magnetic Island State School and a Certificate of Achievement for participation in Clean Up Australia Day was presented to the school.

Tuesday: A "Creek to Coral" Catchment Tour celebrating World Oceans Day and the United Nations program "Hilltops2Oceans" was held visiting Louisa Creek and Reef HQ. Certificates of appreciation for Sustainability in Waterway Management were presented to Louisa Creekwatch and Citiworks.

Wednesday: A beach clean-up was held at Soroptimist Park with the Belgian Gardens State school Junior Rangers.

Thursday: The Youth Environment Network, "Sustain" met at Council Chambers and Environmental Volunteers and Workers attended a "Meet & Greet" at Picnic Bay Life-Saving Club on the Australia Clean Beach Challenge award-winning Strand.

Friday: Tree Planting with Pimlico High School.
