Rebates and Incentives to make your home more sustainable

There are a number of rebates and incentives available for residents to make their homes more sustainable, whether it is focussing on renewable energy, energy efficiency or water efficiency.

 

Australian Government Photovoltaic Rebate Programme
Photovoltaic Rebate Programme (PVRP)
Under the Photovoltaic Rebate Programme (PVRP) cash rebates are available to householders, schools and owners of community use buildings to install grid-connected or stand-alone photovoltaic systems .

Heat pump hot water system

Solar Hot Water Rebates

The Australian Government will provide rebates of $1,000 to install solar and heat pump hot water systems in existing eligible homes.

Roof Mounted Solar Hot Water Installation – Planning fee waiver

Roof Mounted Solar Hot Water InstallationTownsville City Council waives Planning and Development assessment fees for roof mounted solar hot water systems. Planning applications must still be lodged with Council. The assessment process is required to ensure that roof mounted solar hot water systems are cyclone rated.

Home and Garden WaterWise Rebate Schemes

The Home WaterWise Rebate Scheme and the Home Garden WaterWise Rebate Scheme are Queensland Government incentive packages designed to help Queenslanders make their homes and gardens more water efficient.

$200 for a new 4-star (or better) WELS water-rated clothes washing machineHome Waterwise Rebates available include:

  • up to $1000 for new rainwater tanks, including installation, pumps, diverters and slab

  • $200 for a new 4-star (or better) WELS water-rated clothes washing machine

  • $150 per suite for new dual-flush toilet suites to replace existing single-flush toilet suites

  • 50% of purchase and installation costs up to $200 for an above ground grey-water system or $500 towards the purchase and installation of a below-ground grey-water system

  • WELS water-rated showerheads50% of purchase price (up to $30) per showerhead to replace existing showerheads with new 3-star (or better) WELS water-rated showerheads

  • up to $200 for a swimming pool cover and/or roller.

Garden Waterwise Rebates are available for 50% of the total purchase cost for defined garden products up to a maximum rebate of $50

Defined garden products include:

  • native or drought resistant plants that last for more than one year (excludes annuals, seeds, vegetables, fruit trees, edible herbs, turf, indoor and outdoor pot plants)

  • soils for replenishing gardens only i.e. does not include potting mix or soils for top dressing lawns.

  • mulches that may be either organic (e.g. bark chips, sugar cane) or inorganic (e.g. pebbles – which must be between 2mm and 20mm in size)

  • kits or devices specifically designed for generating compost and/or the keeping of worms i.e. excludes separate purchase of worms and devices such as shredders.

  • water crystals and soil wetting agents that increase the water retention of soil.
