Lophostemon suaveolens


Common Name: Swamp Mahogany or Swamp Box
   
Family: Myrtaceae
   
Form and Size: A medium sized tree up to 10m tall, with distorted branches and an open crown.
   
Leaves: Leaves are crowded at the ends of branches, egg-shaped or oval and light green above and paler beneath. Middle rib raised beneath and sunken above. New growth leaves are densely hairy.
   
Flowers: Flowers are white with 5 petalled, stamens are fused in 5 bundles, which are borne in small clusters of up to 7 flowers.
   
Flowering Period: November to January.
   
Fruit: Capsules and semi-circular with thin wall and 3 valves.
   
Cultivation/Notes: Propagate from seed and needs a reliable supply of moisture.
